Chile is not merely a land of contrasts; it is a country of extremes. The mere 175 kilometers (109 mi) wide country stretches 4300km (2,700 mi) to the foot of South America. Arica basks in tropical heat as Punta Arenas shivers at the doorstep of Antarctica. Nowhere else can you stand in the world's driest desert in Atacama or gaze upon the snowcapped peaks before turning your head to see the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. All this and more while sipping on some of the world’s best wine.
Argentina boasts some of the Andes’ highest peaks, several of which top 6000m (1,968 ft.). It is home to wetlands that rival Brazil’s famous Pantanal, massive glaciers in Patagonia, a vast wilderness known as “El Impenetrable”, deserts of Calafate, Andean salt flats, a spectacular Lake District, penguins, flamingos, caimans, and more.
Peru is an epic fantasyland: forgotten temples entangled in jungle vines, cobwebbed imperial tombs toasting in desert sun and ancient treasures which intrigued the conquistadors. The country is home to Machu Picchu, a UNESCO world heritage site, as well as prowling pumas and hallucinogenic shaman rituals that are centuries old.
Ecuador is the second-smallest country in South America, but its range of offerings is unprecedented. Nowhere else on earth will you find so much natural diversity in such a tiny area. In one day’s drive you can journey from the Amazon across ice-topped Andean volcanoes and get to the beach in time to watch the sunset. Want more? Take a trip to the Galapagos Islands and set your eyes on some of nature’s most intriguing animals.
As the fifth largest country by geographical area, occupying nearly half of South America, Brasil lives up to its reputation of being one the world’s cultural giants. Brasil truly offers you everything to your heart’s content: the vast rainforests of the Amazon, the impeccable sands of Bahia and Refice, the immense costal dunes and, of course, the iconic city of Rio. Each of Brasil’s distinct regions comes complete with its own history and way of celebrating the biggest party on the planet, Carnival.
Uruguay, one of South America’s best kept secrets, is now open to the world. In the past only a handful of Argentines, Brazilians and Chileans were in the know of the country’s pristine beaches, iconic cities, delicious steaks and trendy nightlife scene. Now the country is one of the hottest spots in the region, particularly the urban capital of Montevideo and the luxurious paradise of Punta del Este.
